Italy & Spain | COVID-19 further restrictions and recommendations

Both the Italian and Spanish Governments published yesterday, 25th October further restrictions and recommendations due to the increased spread of COVID-19.

In ITALY a new Decree from the President of the Council of Ministers is in place from today 26th October until November 24th containing new actions and prevention measures throughout the national territory. Main points are:

  • Obligation to wear protective devices such as masks and maintain social distancing;

  • Recommended to limit social contacts as much as possible;

  • Distance learning for high school students;

  • Smart working is strongly recommended, and factories and shipyards remain fully operational subject to compliance with safety protocols;

  • Bar, pubs, restaurants etc. open from 5 am to 6 pm with exception of restaurants within hotel facilities that will be able to carry out the catering activity without time limits;

  • Shows, fairs, events, sports competitions with the exception of those recognized by national interest are suspended;

  • Cinemas, theatres, gyms, swimming pools, spas and wellness centres are closed;

  • No borders are closed and free circulation within the Italian regions is still allowed. It’s recommended to move only if strictly necessary (click here to enter in the English section of the Italian Ministry of Health’s website where you can check obligations and restrictions for foreign countries citizens entering in Italy).

In SPAIN the Government declared state of alarm for the whole Spanish territory, and minor restrictions are foreseen for the Canary Islands.

The Spanish Royal Decree n° 926/2020 includes the following general rules, that each autonomous community can change slightly depending on its specific situation:

  • Obligation to wear protective devices such as masks and maintain social distancing;

  • Recommended to limit social contacts as much as possible;

  • Curfew from 23.00 to 6.00;

  • Occupancy in bars and restaurants decreases to 30%;

  • Public and private meetings limited to a maximum of 6 people;

  • The entry & exit of people in/from each autonomous community is restricted, except for adequately justified displacements;

  • Borders are open as before for people coming from EU member states and Schengen (Read more on Spain’s Official Tourism Website).
